David Baillie in bid for Council return

Former Councillor and Liberal Democrat Group Leader David Baillie will be the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Rutherglen South by election due on 14th February.

David served as a Cambuslang Councillor for 9 years until losing his Cambuslang West seat to Labour in May by the agonisingly small margin of 17 votes. He was formerly a College lecturer, and latterly Assistant Principal of Cardonald College.

The Rutherglen South by election is one of the best prospects for a victory for the Liberal Democrats in the West of Scotland – and David Baillie is looking to come out on top against Labour this time.

David Baillie said: “I am excited by the challenge of the by election and the opportunity to get the support of local people to return to the Council. Liberal Democrats have a strong record of action on local issues, and I am keen to get stuck in on behalf of the communities in Rutherglen South.

Robert Brown said:

“David is a highly experienced Councillor with a solid track record of action on local issues. I want to see him back on the Council, and I think that the two of us will make an effective and united team for Rutherglen.

The fight is effectively between Labour and the Liberal Democrats in this ward and we think the result will again be very close. There is everything to play for but we believe we can overhaul Labour’s lead from May.”
