GO APE WITHDRAWAL A VICTORY FOR COMMON SENSE SAYS BROWN

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 13th Jun 2009

Go Ape

Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown has today hailed the decision by Go Ape to pull out of the controversial Pollok Park development as "a victory for common sense".

Robert Brown has campaigned against the proposal from the beginning, and in 2008, hundreds of objections were made to Glasgow City Council.

The Maxwell family, who donated the Park to the people of Glasgow, along with the National Trust, had also objected.

Robert Brown said:

"Today's decision by Go Ape to withdraw from Pollok Park is a victory for common sense and a huge relief for all concerned.

"The decision to build a Go Ape adventure site was ill judged and unsuitable.

"The campaigners have waged a magnificent campaign and must be congratulated on their success."
